Nokia Lumia 1320

Nokia Lumia 1320

Nokia Lumia 1320

Big screen, small price.
If you want a new Windows Phone but the Lumia 1520 is beyond your budget, you cannot go wrong with the Nokia Lumia 1320. With a 6-inch screen, 4G and a colorful design, there is a lot to love about the Lumia 1320!

The Nokia Lumia 1320 has a great design. The front of the phone is coated in glass and on the back of the phone there is a removable plastic panel which gently curves round to meet the screen. Despite being made of plastic, the Lumia 1320 feels sturdy and durable. In addition, it is reassuring to know that the display is protected by Gorilla Glass 3.

While the 1320 does not enjoy the Full HD resolution of the Lumia 1520, the 720p display delivers crisp text and colorful images. As the Windows Phone OS was designed for 720p screens, the difference in screen resolution is negligible.

The Nokia Lumia 1320 is powered by a dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor with a 1.7GHz clock speed and has 1GB of RAM. While this is quite an old chip, it works well and can even support high performance games. This is largely due to the efficiency of the Windows Phone OS and the lower than HD screen resolution. The phone has 8GB of onboard memory and 7GB of free OneDrive cloud storage. In addition, it is great to see that the Lumia 1320 has a microSD slot so you can top up the onboard memory.

Nokia has always produced great camera phones. While the camera of the Lumia 1320 is nowhere near as powerful as the mighty Lumia 1020, it is great for everyday use. On the back of the phone there is a 5MP camera and a VGA camera on the front of the phone for selfies and videos calls. You can also use the primary camera to shoot video in stunning 1080p.

Although Windows Phone is often overlooked for the likes of Android and iOS, the mobile operating system from Microsoft has a lot of features which make it a great alternative. Like iOS, Windows Phone features a personal assistant. Called Cortana, the personal assistant from Windows Phone can perform a range of tasks such as setting a reminder, calling a contact and giving directions. Like other Windows smartphones, the Nokia Lumia 1320 features a Live Tiles home screen. Live Tiles can be pinned to applications, contacts and files for quick access to the things that matter most to you. In addition, tiles assigned to feeds update automatically so you are always up to date!

The Nokia Lumia 1320 has the Lumia Cyan update for Windows Phone 8.1 which has a number of helpful features. One such feature is the Action Centre which is activated by swiping the top of the screen down. This pane displays all of your notifications and gives you quick access to important settings.

Nokia Lumia 630

Nokia Lumia 630

Nokia Lumia 630

The perfect balance of power and price.

The Nokia Lumia 630, like the popular Moto G, is geared towards the budget end of the cellphone market. While it does not have all the premium features seen in Microsoft’s high-end cellphones it offers reliability and the Windows Phone experience at a very attractive price point.

Although design is often compromised in budget cellphones, this is not the case with the Nokia Lumia 630. The phone has a plastic but sturdy body and is available in a loud orange and green shades as well as subdued black. The phone sports a respectable 4.5 inch screen with a resolution of 854 x 480 pixels. While this is a lower pixel density than most budget Android cellphones, it is good enough for most cellphone users.

One of the most attractive features of the Lumia 630 is its operating system: Windows Phone 8.1. This is, at time of writing, the most recent and most powerful edition of Microsoft’s mobile operating system. Although Windows Phone traditionally lags behind iOS and Android in terms of sales, the latest version of the operating system has a number of useful features that make it a notable contender in the cellphone market. One of the most notable changes is a drop-down notification menu which allows you to quickly check up on all your notification feeds. In addition, the Nokia Lumia 630 features Cortana, the Windows Phone personal assistant. Using your voice, you can ask Cortana to perform a range of tasks from setting a reminder to getting live traffic updates.

Like other phones in the Lumia series, the Nokia Lumia 630 features HERE maps. HERE Maps is an intelligent navigation systems which offers navigation both online and offline. This makes getting lost due to no cellphone signal a thing of the past. As well as offering driving instructions, HERE Maps has a Transit feature that offers live public transport information.

Another great application that you will find on the Nokia Lumia 630 is Nokia MixRadio. Designed with music-lovers in mind, this application offers free, commercial-free mix streaming. You can choose from a range of recently updated mixes or you can opt for the app to tailor a playlist to your musical preferences for a bespoke playlist. The application also works offline so you do not need to worry about MixRadio eating into your data allowance!

In addition, the camera has a wide angle which means that you get more into your photo – this feature is excellent for taking group shots! On the back of the phone there is a 6.7MP camera which is perfect for taking regular photographs.

Unlike the Lumia 830 which sports a metal trim, the Nokia Lumia 735 has a sleek and cohesive matte plastic design which effortlessly curves into the 4.7-inch display. In addition, the cellphone comes with a wireless charging shell. The display is the same size as that featured on the iPhone 6 but has a slightly lower (but still excellent) resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels.

Beneath the surface the cellphone is powered by a quad-core 1.2Ghz Snapdragon processor alongside 1GB of RAM which is enough memory for the phone to run smoothly. In addition, the cellphone has 8GB of onboard memory. While this may not be enough for some users, Nokia have included a 15GB of free cloud storage and microSD slot allowing you to add up to 128GB to the existing memory.

The Nokia Lumia 735 is powered by the latest version of the Windows Phone operating system: Windows Phone 8.1. This allows for the best windows Phone experience to date. The 735 features Live Tiles for the ultimate home screen. Live Tiles are customizable tiles which can be assigned to a range of applications, contact, documents and even live feeds. This means that you always know what is going on in your social circles! Another great feature found on the Windows Phone 8.1 operating system is the Action Center which streamlines all of your notifications into one place.

The Lumia 735 also features Cortana, the Windows Phone personal assistant. Using voice commands, Cortana can perform a range of tasks such as setting reminders and sending messages. Cortana can also give you directions and up-to-date traffic information so you are never late for an appointment or meeting.

While in the past Windows Phone has received some criticism for not having as many apps as iOS and Android, this is not the case anymore. Indeed, the Nokia Lumia 735 comes with a great selection of applications and there is a growing collection of apps and games in the Windows Phone store if you want any more. Like other Windows cellphones, the Nokia Lumia 735 comes with Microsoft Office preinstalled which means that you can open, edit and create documents on the go. In addition, the phone comes with a generous 15GB of OneDrive cloud storage so you can access your files on all of your devices. Another great preinstalled application on the Nokia Lumia 735 is the Maps app which works both online and offline.

Nokia Lumia 520

Nokia Lumia 520

Nokia Lumia 520

An affordable Windows Phone experience

A Look at the Nokia Lumia 520

The Nokia Lumia 520 is one of a series of smartphones (including the 525, 530 and 630) that represents some of the most cutting-edge mobile technology currently on the marketplace. This model is seen to be a cost-effective alternative to the more expensive models such as those produced by Samsung or Apple.
Perhaps the most important attribute of the 520 is that it is considered to be the most popular choice for the Windows 8 operating system. This is due in no small part to an impressive processing power for such a low-cost model. The phone has five hundred and twelve megabytes of RAM as standard. It is powered by a dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor; enabling it to run relatively free from freezing or other software issues. So, users can expect a streamlined experience for only a fraction of the price associated with more robust models.

For those who do not require a considerably large display, the Lumia 520 will be quite agreeable. Offering a width of four inches and a display of four hundred and eight by eight hundred pixels, visual navigation is very easy. The resolution is considered nominal and its rather diminutive overall size (in comparison to larger models) enables the 520 to be transported and operated easily.

While on the topic of ergonomics and design, we should also note that the Lumia shares the same minimalistic appeal of the 525, 530 and 630 variants. A smooth plastic backing is available in either black or white. However, customers can also opt for “louder” colors such as red, yellow or blue. As the corners are more angular than the rounded edges of the 530 or the 630, the 520 actually appears much more similar to the extremely high-end Nokia Lumia 920.

The camera is located on the reverse side (there is no front-facing option) and it offers an impressive five megapixels of resolution. Since there is no ability to take “selfies” with this version, the ability to engage in face-to-face video chats is not possible. Still, the camera is indeed considered to be adequate for such a low-price model.

The Nokia Lumia 520 is seen to be one of the most cost-effective and functional models on the market. As it efficiently supports Windows 8, it is ideal for those seeking an entry-level variant to the more expensive alternatives.

Nokia X

nokia x

While many smartphone manufacturers have taken advantage of Google’s Android operating system, Nokia has always stuck with the Windows Operating system. Of this trio of Android smartphones, the Nokia X is has the lower spec and the lower price point.

The Nokia X runs on a forked version of Google’s open source Android software which means that while the code is based on the familiar Google operating system, the interface is has been heavily modified. Another great application featured on the Nokia X is the Nokia MixRadio application which creates ad-free mixes everyday based on the music you like to listen to.

The Nokia X does not have the Google Play Store, meaning that you have to download apps and games from the Nokia Store. Indeed, Nokia commented that around 10% of the apps that they tested from the Google Play Store had viruses.

Nokia has always had a good reputation for the build of its phones, and the Nokia X is no exception. The Nokia X has a 4-inch LCD display with adequate resolution, given the price point, and is available in 6 vibrant colors: yellow, white, red, green, cyan and black.

Beneath its colorful exterior, the Nokia X is powered by a respectable 1GHz dual-core Snapdragon chipset and is supported by 521MB of RAM. The Nokia X has a 1,500 mAh battery which delivers up to 10 hours talk time and even longer standby time.
