Moto X

Awesome smartphone with 4K video

The 2014 model of the Motorola Moto X is a second-generation mobile phone and there are some notable upgrades in comparison to the 2013 model (its direct and only predecessor). This mid-sized smartphone boasts the quality of being somewhat amenably priced in comparison to its main competitors such as the iPhone and the Samsung Galaxy. Still, there are a number of worthwhile features which allow the Moto X to be attractive to many users.

To begin with, a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor is seen as a slight improvement over the 1.7 GHz dual-core variant that was seen in the 2013 Moto X. This comes alongside an impressive memory capacity of two gigabytes of RAM; ideal for most games and applications. Finally, the Adreno 330 graphics processing unit is seen as being one of the best in its class for this medium-priced smartphone. Note there is no expandable storage for the 2014 Moto X.

The build of the phone itself is another truly stunning feature. An aluminum chassis is seen by many to be a step up from the hard plastic case of the previous model. Perhaps most interestingly, the screen size has been increased from 4.7 to 5.2 inches while only adding a negligible weight increase to the phone. The edges of the unit are smooth and allow for easy handling. As the structure will not flex (a problem with the 2013 model as well as the previous Moto G), the physical integrity of this phone has vastly increased.

From a graphical standpoint, the 5.2-inch display is certainly not to be overlooked. With a resolution of no less than 423 pixels per inch, users can now enjoy full high-definition graphics (in comparison to the 4.7-inch screen of the 2013 Moto X). AMOLED technology has once again in the unit and this adoption enables bright and realistic colours. Combined with the aforementioned processing power, users will have no problem playing the latest games or watching their favourite videos.

Finally, the thirteen megapixel camera is another improvement over the ten megapixels offered by the previous model. Note that this camera is also able to record 4K video; an enviable quality for what many consider to be a middle-market unit.

Combining a robust processing power, streamlined features, a wider screen and excellent graphics, the Motorola Moto X is indeed an example of the heightened technology that is now being employed in mid-range smartphones.
